What Is Ayurveda? Ayurveda is defined as a traditional science of life. Ayurveda is part of the roots of natural medicine which sprouted and grew out from India. Today Ayurveda is recognized as a complementary health and wellness practice to modern health Sciences. 

What Is Ayurvedic Nutrition?Ayurvedic Nutritionis a natural approach to nutrition based on the person as a whole. Ayurvedic Nutrition encourages the individual to have a compassionate relationship with their food. Ayurvedic Nutrition is non toxic to the body with no side effects or symptoms. 

What is Ayurvedic Nutrition Consultation? It works to identify the client’s digestive quality related to the individual’s mind and body constitution. Ayurvedic recommendations include beneficial vitamins and minerals that are found in botanical sources — from the root to leaf — and in other foods. Ayurveda promotes wholesome eating, healthy living, and overall well-being. 

Ayurvedic Nutrition balances the Ayurvedic body types called Doshas. Balancing the Doshas improves the quality of digestion which removes toxins from the digestive systems. The fundamental expression of Ayurveda Doshas is rooted in the five elements called the Pancha Bhutas.  ~ fire, water, earth, ether, and wind ~ .

How are the basic Ayurvedic body types related to the five elements? They are divided into three basic categories and matched with like qualities.

  • Vata ~ Ether and Wind
  • Pita ~ Fire and Earth
  • Kapha ~ Water and Earth

Why Is Healthy Digestion Important? Healthy digestion is known in Ayurveda as the super digestive strength called Agni. Healthy digestion turns food into nutrients,  which can be easily absorbed into the tissues, and distributed to the individual cells in the body to optimize energy for life functions. Recognizing, acknowledging, and digesting our emotions influences the quality of digestion. Ayurveda explains that undigested food can create toxicity called Ama a root cause of many diseases.

Why Is An Ayurvedic Consultation Important?An Ayurvedic consultation provides one with insight of the five elements and a better understanding of one’s own Ayurvedic Constitution. Educating an individual about their Prakriti and Vikruti, and the applications of the six tastes are important measuring tools in Ayurveda.

What is Prakriti? Prakriti is the individual’s biological combination of the five elements during the time of conception and unchangeable from birth. The Ayurvedic constitution is based on traditional Ayurvedic principles, and provides guidelines which help identify an individuals’ Ayurvedic biological state referred to as in the Ayurvedic texts. The seven body types called Doshas are identified as Vata~Pitta, Pitta~Vata, Vata~Kapha, Kapha~Vata, Pitta~Kapha, Kapha~Pitta, and Vata~Pitta~Kapha.

What is Vikruti? Vikruti is the current individual’s biological state influenced by diet, lifestyle, environmental changes, and cultural factors operating within and around us. The overall health and well-being of an individual is affected by the Ayurvedic biological state.

What Are The Six Tastes ~ What Are The Rasas ? They are the flavours within foods. Ayurvedic Nutrition is based on the combination of the six tastes called the Rasas ~ sweet, sour, salty, bitter, pungent, and astringent~. The application of the six tastes are applied to the individual Ayurvedic constitution to attain optimal digestion, a healthy gut, and well-being to enjoy FOOD again!

Traditional Nutrition might say you are what you eat! Ayurveda says; you are what you digest — which influences the nature of the individual!
